I can print a document to the HP, but if I attempt to print a second document at a later time the application Word, Excel, or Powerpoint freezes up with a message that "Word is preparing to background print to Opening the printer box reveals that the document is "spooling". The Office app "is not responding". Attempts to close it produce options: Restart, Close or Wait. If you close or restart and attempt to print a document to the HP it will not print. This happens with all types of files and documents, new and old and text documents with only the word "test" in them.
The only "fix" is to reboot the computer. However you only get to print one job before it happens again. This only happens when printing from an office application. If you print from other applications to this printer everything is fine. However, once this has started in an office application no other application can print to the HP It only happens with Office desktop on an i5 based computer and a surface pro 4.
We have other computers running Office that do not have this problem. There are 2 other printers on the network; a HP p and a Xerox Phaser Office prints to them or prints to a PDF without any problems.
I have reinstalled Office I have replaced printer drivers sourced from Microsoft and HP. I have downloaded and executed printer troubleshooters from both HP and Microsoft. Nothing has changed the behavior.

Starting the computer in clean boot mode would disable all the non-Microsoft applications and the antivirus which could be one of the reason for the issue. Disclaimer: Ensure to restart the computer in normal mode after completing the troubleshooting steps.

I am also on the HP forum where many people have the same problem but with different HP printers. The only common thread is Office I have no solutions from Microsoft.
